PROJECT "PROVIDING ACCESS OF VULNERABLE GROUPS OF THE POPULATION TO MEDIATION IN FAMILY
AND INHERITANCE DISPUTES"

In 2019, the Public Union of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation in partnership with the law club PRAVOKATOR.Odesa, and with the support of the Ukrainian-Canadian Project "Affordable and high-quality legal aid in Ukraine" of the Canadian Bureau of International Education, with the support of the Government of Canada, implemented the project "Ensuring access of vulnerable population groups to mediation in family and inheritance disputes" in Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regions.

The project was implemented with the aim of providing citizens with access to mediation through the system of free legal aid.

Within the framework of this project:

    methodical material was developed for identifying mediatable cases and offering mediation (the Roadmap for offering mediation in the Free legal aid system in family and inheritance disputes, which contains information on the criteria for the mediability of disputes/conflicts when their settlement using mediation is impossible);
    a two-day training program was developed for employees of the Free Legal Aid system on the identification of mediatable family and inheritance cases, as well as the correct offer to clients to resolve a dispute with the help of mediation;
    a workbook was developed for the participants of the two-day training on the definition of mediatable family and inheritance cases, as well as the correct proposal to clients to resolve the dispute with the help of mediation;
    an information booklet (triplet) was developed for citizens regarding the possibility of alternative resolution of family and inheritance disputes;
    a two-day training was held for employees of the Free Legal Aid system and family counsellors on the definition of mediatable family and inheritance cases, as well as the correct offer to clients to resolve a dispute with the help of mediation;
    a pilot "mediation office" was opened on the basis of the Odesa local center for the provision of free secondary legal assistance;
    the second "mediation office" was opened on the basis of the Vinnytsia local center for the provision of free secondary legal assistance;
    1,500 information booklets were distributed among local centers providing free secondary legal aid, whose employees participated in the training held on April 25-26, 2019;
    a two-day educational training program was developed and finalized for trainers from among employees of the system of providing free legal aid and lawyers who cooperate with the system in order to conduct further cascade (regional) training on the identification of mediatable family and inheritance cases, as well as correctly offering clients to resolve disputes for through mediation;
    the conference "Mediation in the system of providing free legal aid" was held.
