35 Years of Ukraine’s Independence

On 24 August, Ukraine marks the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of its Independence.

The decision adopted in 1991 was preceded by years of struggle and the efforts of people who defended Ukraine’s right to be free and to determine its own future.

Thirty-five years later, we know that independence is not something granted once and forever. It is built on choice, responsibility, resilience, and the people thanks to whom Ukraine has been, is, and will remain an independent state.

On this day, we remember those who fought for Ukraine’s independence throughout different periods of our history, and we are deeply grateful to those who continue to defend it.
