Ethical Dilemmas in Mediation: How We Make Difficult Decisions
We invite you on August 14, 2025, at 18:00 to a closed online meeting in the UAM Circle — a community of graduates and associate partners of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation. We will talk about situations where professional standards, personal values, and the realities of conflict may not coincide, and together we will look for ways to act in such cases.
Every mediator has faced questions such as:
- Should I speak up now, or is it better to remain silent?
- Can I resolve the situation on my own, or do I need supervision?
- How should I act when ethical norms and personal beliefs diverge?
We will look at an algorithm for responding to ethical tension, take part in a reflection exercise to recognize our own ethical boundaries, and discuss where exactly the limits of our professional ethics lie.
The UAM Circle is a warm and safe space for open professional conversations. There are no formal lectures here, but deep discussions, mutual respect, and trust. This is a place where one can share even the most difficult dilemmas and receive sincere feedback. Our meetings are a professional workshop where everyone can be both a learner and a mentor, and where the experience of each participant is valuable and meaningful.
Format: closed event — only for graduates and associate partners of UAM.
The event is organized by the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation within the project “CONSENT: Strengthening the Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Ukraine with a Focus on Mediation”, implemented with the support of the European Union.
