Mandatory Mediation: Which Model Works, How to Implement It, and How to Measure Results

Mandatory mediation and MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) models are increasingly becoming the subject of professional discussions around the world. They are viewed as potential tools for expanding access to justice, encouraging constructive dialogue between parties, and reducing the burden on court systems.

During this panel discussion, participants will examine different approaches to implementing mandatory mediation, discuss international experience with MIAM models, explore the benefits and challenges of their application, and identify lessons that may be useful for countries considering the introduction of such mechanisms.

Particular attention will be paid to evaluating the effectiveness of mandatory mediation. The discussion will address which indicators truly demonstrate the success of a model, how its impact on the justice system can be measured, and what criteria should be considered when assessing outcomes.

Asiyan Suleymanoglu (Türkiye) - internationally accredited mediator, consultant to the United Nations, DFC, and the OPEC Fund on dispute resolution matters.
