Mindfulness Day: A Resource for Mediators
Yesterday, the world marked Mindfulness Day — a great occasion to reflect on how important it is for mediators to stay fully present in the moment.
Mindfulness in Mediation
Mediators constantly have to balance:
✨ on the one hand — being aware of their own emotions and states, so as not to bring them into the space between the parties;
✨ on the other — practicing active listening, which requires full focus and attention.
Mindfulness practice helps maintain this balance. The loss of presence is felt immediately — not only in words but also in eye contact, pauses, and gestures.
International Experience
It is no coincidence that the international mediation training offered by Edward Mediation Academy includes a dedicated mindfulness module. Thanks to a strong partnership with EMA, this course has been available free of charge to Ukrainians for several years.
A Moment for Reflection
Mindfulness Day reminds us of the power of presence. Perhaps the similarity between the words mediation and meditation carries a deeper meaning: mindfulness helps mediators create a dialogue space where both they and others can truly be heard.
