Singapore Convention on Mediation: Five Years of Progress

Singapore Convention on Mediation: Five Years of Progress

On September 12, 2020, the Singapore Convention on Mediation entered into force. This date became a milestone for the international community, marking the culmination of years of preparation, discussions, and negotiations.

Global Context

The Convention has proven the effectiveness of business interaction through a culture of peaceful dispute resolution. Its significance and the broader context of mediation were recently discussed during Singapore Convention Week 2025, which brought together international experts and practitioners.

The Ukrainian Perspective

Ukraine was among the first 46 countries to sign this important international document. For our country, it means not only integration into the global legal space but also a clear signal: mediation is a modern and effective tool that deserves active implementation.

Time for Reflection and New Challenges

The fifth anniversary is a great opportunity to ask ourselves:

  • How has our perception of mediation changed over these years?
  • Are we ready to use it more boldly in business, civic initiatives, education, and social projects?

The Singapore Convention is not just a legal instrument — it is a roadmap showing that mediation can become a powerful tool for building fair and constructive relationships in society.
