The Mediation Profession: New Opportunities for Law Students

On 11–12 November 2024, an online event dedicated to the mediation profession and its importance for future legal professionals took place. The event brought together students from different fields of study, once again highlighting the versatility of mediation and its relevance across various professional areas.

Mediation offers students an opportunity to develop modern professional skills that are becoming increasingly important for the lawyers of the future.

Valentyna Duka, youth worker, expert of the EU-funded CONSENT Project, and Assistant to the Head of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation, shared her experience and delivered a lecture on the prospects for the development of mediation in Ukraine.

Participants discussed the value of mediation for future professionals and explored how mediation skills can complement legal education and professional practice.

During the event, participants learned about:

  • key aspects of the mediation profession;
  • the importance of mediation in legal practice;
  • career development opportunities through mediation skills.

The event brought together law students, representatives of the Veritas Legal Clinic at Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, students of the university’s Faculty of Law, and students of the Professional College of V. O. Sukhomlynskyi Mykolaiv National University.

Participants actively discussed the potential of mediation in the professional activities of lawyers and other specialists, as well as the opportunities that mediation skills can create for their future careers.

The event was organised by the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation within the project “CONSENT: Enhancing the Role of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Ukraine with a Focus on Mediation”, implemented with the support of the European Union.
