Ukrainian Academy of Mediation Strengthens Partnership with the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC)
The Ukrainian Academy of Mediation continues to expand its international cooperation in the field of alternative dispute resolution. A month ago, representatives of the Academy held a working meeting with the team of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), opening new opportunities for joint professional initiatives and further cooperation.
During the visit to the VIAC office in Vienna, representatives of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation had the opportunity to learn more about the work of one of Europe’s leading institutions in the field of alternative dispute resolution, with extensive international expertise in arbitration and mediation.
The Ukrainian Academy of Mediation was represented by its Vice President Svitlana Sergeyeva and President Luiza Romanadze. VIAC was represented by Elisabeth Vanas-Metzler, Managing Counsel; Ema Potočnik, Director of the VIAC Community Ambassador Network (VIAC CAN); and Vladyslava Donchyk, Coordinator of VIAC CAN.
During the meeting, the participants discussed opportunities to further develop the partnership, implement joint projects, promote professional exchange, and launch new initiatives in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).
Particular attention was paid to the potential of the Ukrainian mediation community, which in recent years has gained unique practical experience in developing mediation amid the full-scale war and other major societal challenges. At the same time, the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation has developed substantial expertise in mediator training, professional community development, and the implementation of modern approaches to peaceful dispute resolution.
Strengthening cooperation with VIAC creates new opportunities for international knowledge exchange, joint educational and professional projects, and closer connections between the Ukrainian and European ADR communities.
Looking ahead, the partnership will continue through new joint initiatives, professional dialogue, and cooperation based on shared values, mutual trust, and a common commitment to advancing a culture of peaceful dispute resolution.
