What Lies Beneath an Inheritance Conflict? Insights from UAM CIRCLE

On May 8, the UAM community held another meeting in the “UAM CIRCLE” format. This time, participants simulated a mediation procedure in an inheritance dispute. The simulation allowed for a deeper immersion into the specifics of the case, practice of mediation techniques, and a better understanding of the roles of both the mediator and the parties involved.

Participants noted that a clear session structure created a sense of clarity. The parties began to articulate their needs, outline topics for discussion, and set the order of consideration. A key turning point in reaching mutual understanding was realizing the true cause of the conflict — not the property issue, but the influence of third parties within the family.

During the simulation, empathy, the ability to be heard, and receiving feedback and support from colleagues proved essential. Some participants, for the first time, felt: “I have an influence on the process,” which was a valuable and inspiring experience.

At the same time, it was noted that future work should place more emphasis on maintaining neutrality and adapting communication to the age and experience of the parties involved.

We thank everyone who participated in this event. We continue to learn from each other, grow in our professional community, and develop together.
