From play to skills: a new initiative of the Ukrainian Academy of Mediation for children's development
Children are the future of the country, so we pay constant attention to their comprehensive development. Creating the conditions for the harmonious development of the younger generation is a key priority that contributes to building a strong and stable society.
As part of this approach, the Ukrainian Mediation Academy, with the support of the American people provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Justice for All Programme and with the financial support of the European Union under the CONSENT Project, has developed the educational and developmental game ‘Communication Master’. This game allows children to learn important life skills in a playful way.
Given the high level of conflicts and misunderstandings due to poor communication, as well as the low level of tolerance in society and especially in the school environment, the game provides children with an easy and effective way to learn emotion management, effective communication, constructive conflict resolution and successful negotiation.
This innovative game is adapted for different age groups, making it relevant and engaging for children from 6 to 17 years old.
The goal of the Communication Master game is to teach children and adolescents the culture of peaceful dispute resolution and conflict resolution, to develop emotional intelligence, effective communication and negotiation skills, and to form an understanding of the value of cooperation and support.
The game helps to raise players' awareness of emotions, communication, conflict and negotiation in accordance with the four game systems (zones). The game also promotes the development of players' creativity.
The problem of play is a high level of conflicts and misunderstandings due to poor communication, as well as a low level of tolerance in society in general and in schools in particular. Children often do not know how to recognise and effectively manage their emotions, or respond to the emotions of others in an environmentally friendly way. They may face problems in establishing quality interpersonal relationships and effective communication at school and at home. During the game, players will learn how to resolve conflicts safely and effectively, how to communicate successfully, how to respond to toxic communication, as well as develop their emotional intelligence and learn how to negotiate successfully.
The game will be distributed free of charge to schools from different regions of Ukraine.
In the near future, training of presenters among school psychologists will be held. More information is available HERE:
